The reasons this is a game-changer:

  • Low calories
  • Solid protein content
  • Added BCAA’s and glutamine

MyProtein Clear Whey Isolate

✅ Great Nutritional Content
✅ Original Concept
✅ Brand New Fruity Flavors
✅ High Protein Content
✅ Low Calories

Aside from the fact that it’s a high-quality whey isolate, the type of protein used isn’t its key selling point. Gareth Gray (Head of New Product Development) at MyProtein HQ explained that the brand new Clear Whey Isolate sold out of 6,000 tubs of stock in just five days.

Gareth continued to say that this was because this powder was created to taste more like juice than your standard milky whey protein shakes.

On top of that, MyProtein released five exciting original flavors at the launch back in 2019: Bitter Lemon, Orange Mango, Peach Tea, Mojito, and Rainbow Candy. Since then they have followed up with another five new flavors for 2020:

NEW 2021 FLAVORS: Cranberry & Raspberry, Grape, Mango & Coconut, Ramune, Watermelon

The price as of today is £21.99 for a 20 serving tub, each scoop providing 20 grams of protein, at 90 calories per serving.

Let’s run through a beginner’s guide to protein powders and why this new MyProtein Clear Whey Isolate review recommends this product to your supplements list.

What is Whey Protein

In the cheese-making process, separating the liquid part that separates from the milk is called ‘whey.’ If you want some extra knowledge, milk contains two types of protein, casein (80%) and whey (20%). Whey protein is found in the cheese-making process, the fattier parts of the milk coagulate, which separates from the liquid which forms whey.

At this point, whey protein goes through a number of manufacturing steps to become the premium protein clear powder it is in your tub. At this point, the flavor is usually added to give it a unique taste. Unlike classic MyProtein whey flavors, the clear whey drinks come in summer flavors which are ideal for a refreshing post-workout drink.

Fun Fact: “Whey is one of the biggest sources of food protein available today. The world whey output as of 2013 was 180 million tonnes”

Difference between Whey Isolate and Whey Concentrate

The main difference between whey isolate and whey concentrate is the manner in which they are processed.

In the processing stages of whey, once the desired concentration of protein is achieved in its liquid form, a drying process is introduced to create the powder. At this point, Whey concentrate is formed when the powder consists of roughly 80% protein by weight. Carbohydrates and fats form the remaining 20% of the whey concentrate powder.

Whey isolate has slightly different processing methods to increase its protein content to roughly 90%. The methods applied to involve reducing the carbohydrate and fat content to boost the ratio of protein in whey isolate.

Interestingly, both concentrate and isolate are derived from the same source of whey, and therefore contain the same amount of amino acids.

Here we have a comparison of Myprotein’s best selling Impact Whey Concentrate (80%) and Impact Whey Isolate (90%) With a combined volume of almost 20,000 reviews ~4.5 out of 5.0

Nutritional InformationMyProtein Impact Whey Concentrate (80%) (Unflavored)MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate (90%) (Unflavored)Difference

Carbs1g0.6g-0.4g
Fat1.9g0.1g-1.8g

Ultimately for the price difference, you could consume a larger serving of whey concentrate to make up for the 2 grams difference in protein and be better off than paying an extra 22% for a 1 kg bag.

The main benefit to ‘isolate’ would really be if you’re watching your carbs and fats in great detail. These small increments can add up especially if you’re competing in bodybuilding or following a tight cutting routine which we’ve covered in great detail.

Clear Whey Isolate Protein Flavors

Clear Whey Myprotein flavours

MyProtein has done a stellar job with the flavors available on the first launch:

  • Bitter Lemon
  • Orange Mango
  • Peach Tea
  • Mojito
  • Rainbow Candy
  • Cranberry & Raspberry *New*
  • Grape *New*
  • Mango & Coconut *New*
  • Ramune *New*
  • Watermelon *New*

These flavors are all great sounding and the perfect summer drinks. Peach Tea is the ideal balance of sweet, light, and peachy with a hint of Tea. Typically these sugary flavors are too sweet like the pre-workout powders, but MyProtein has struck the right balance.

Clear Whey Isolate Benefits

With the same amount of protein as your standard Impact Whey Protein, the lighter summer version offers a solid 20g of protein per scoop. This does leave you the option to double up but it may be too sweet.

There’s an additional 4g of Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAA’s) and 3g of Glutamine to help build and repair muscle. MyProtein typically has extra BCAA’s added to their Impact Whey, but the glutamine is a bonus with the clear whey isolate protein powder.

The flavor we’ve tested, Peach Tea, contains just 0.2g of sugar per serving, just a fifth of what you’d find in the Impact Whey. If you’re conscious about the amount of sugar you’re putting into your body (and you should be), then this is a great ‘low sugar’ muscle growth beverage to keep in the cupboard.

Rarely do protein supplements contain high-fat content, and neither does this. 0.1g of fat, essentially negligible, is also why this clear protein powder is only 90 calories per scoop.

Suggested Use

This is a great pre-workout and post-workout drink, the low calories will help in your fat loss journey.

Pre Workout

Your body needs protein before any type of training so there’s a ready supply of amino acids in your system for your muscles to tap in to, this will encourage MPS – Muscle Protein Synthesis. MPS is the signal that tells your body to grow and recover your muscles.

Foods like steak can take longer to digest, but a high-quality whey isolate will typically take an hour. It’s a great way to get your protein without feeling bloated and sluggish before training – great for those who get up and out early in the mornings.

Post Workout

There once was a golden rule to gaining lean muscle in the bodybuilding community. Drink your protein shake within 1 hour of training, or you’ll have missed your ‘anabolic window’ – the window to gain muscle. While there is a window, it most definitely isn’t capped at one hour. If this were the case, all gyms would have rows of microwaves for fitness fanatics to microwave their post-workout chicken and broccoli!

Can you imagine the smell of sweat, chicken, and broccoli… A protein shake post-workout is excellent for practicality, consuming the required quantity of protein as well as from a good source. It’s also a lot easier for your stomach to digest than a large meal.

For practicality, in the fast-paced modern age, most people are time-poor, and a quick hit of macro and micro-nutrients in a shake will be helpful to get out of the gym and into your next meeting.

Clear Whey Protein Powder – Verdict ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We’re always looking at how to buy the best protein powder, where from, and is it a good value for money. If you’re low on protein powder or wondering what the best protein powder is to buy – this should be your next purchase. It’s important to note that this tub is a conveniently portable size too, making it even easier to transport in your gym training bag.

Our tests found that there is a strange aftertaste. We experimented on 5 flavors that we had and they all had the same effect. This isn’t bad enough to avoid a purchase, however it’s worth noting.

There are over 677 reviews for the Clear Whey Isolate Protein Powder on MyProtein, with an average rating of 4.77 out of 5. Don’t just take our word for it:

I’ve been taking Impact Whey for years and was intrigued by this. If you are bored drinking milky shakes then 100% switch to Clear Whey! I got the Orange & Mango flavor which tastes incredible and is much more refreshing after a workout. It also mixes a lot better than normal Whey Protein. Will be getting the Rainbow Candy flavor next. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
